🌲 Things to Know Before Your Stay at Alpnhaus

We want your time at Alpnhaus to be as peaceful, comfortable and easy as possible.
Here are a few helpful things to know before you arrive.

Arrival & Departure

  • Check-in: Between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm

  • Check-out: Before 10:30 am
If you expect to arrive outside these times, just let us know — we’ll always do our best to accommodate you.
When you arrive, please park on the hard standing beside Alpnhaus. We’ll usually appear to greet you, but if not, please knock on the main house door.

Breakfast

A freshly prepared Alpine breakfast is delivered to your door each morning — filled with locally sourced, seasonal produce.
We also offer a vegetarian option (please let us know in advance).
If you prefer a slower start, we’ll leave it quietly outside so as not to disturb you.

Your Hot Tub

Your private, wood-fired hot tub is freshly filled with natural Scottish spring water for your stay.
We’ll have it heated to around 39°C and ready for you each evening at about 6:00 pm — or if you’d like a different time, there’s a basket of logs so you can heat it yourself.
We’ll let you know when it’s ready so you can slip in and enjoy the view under the stars.

Please read our Hot Tub Guide before use.

Bringing Your Dog

Well-behaved dogs are very welcome to stay free of charge (please let us know in advance).
We simply ask that:

  • Any mess is cleaned up thoroughly.

  • You let us know afterwards so we can deep clean before the next guests.
Please don’t leave dogs unattended in the chalet.

What to Bring

We provide:

  • All bed linen and towels

  • Bathrobes for your hot tub time

  • Olive oil, salt, pepper, and kitchen basics

  • Cleaning essentials

Please bring:

  • Suitable footwear for walking to and from the hot tub (especially in winter)

  • Food and drink. Please let us know if you book a delivery so that we can pop deliveries into Alpnhaus if it arrives before you.

Heating & Comfort

Alpnhaus is built with local larch and very well insulated for warmth. There are radiators inside, the heating is on 24 hours a day with a thermostat inside so you can have Alpnhaus at the perfect temperature for you.

Winter Visits

We can still get proper “old-fashioned” snow here! The roads are usually well cleared, and we use winter tyres on our own car without trouble.
Del keeps the driveway clear, and the snowplough works hard until the road is driveable.
Bring warm boots and clothing if you want to play in the snow!

Dark Skies

Alpnhaus sits under one of Europe’s darkest skies, with no light pollution.
On clear nights, you can often see the Milky Way, and sometimes even the Northern Lights.
If you’d like to explore more, Kielder Observatory is just 20 minutes away.

Weather & Access

In very severe weather, access to the hot tub or sauna may not be possible for safety reasons.
If snow or storms prevent travel, refunds aren’t offered — but we’ll always do what we can to help.
We recommend travel insurance to cover any unforeseen events.

Respect for Singdean

We’ve poured years of love into creating Alpnhaus, and we ask that guests treat it with the same care and respect.
Please leave it tidy when you go, report any damage, and enjoy it as your home away from home.

💚 Finally

We live nearby — close enough to help if you need us, but far enough to give you complete privacy.
If you have any questions, just come and find us or message.
We’re always happy to help.
